Yankees superstar Juan Soto dodges question about future with New York

The New York Yankees have been great so far this season, but there's a real chance the club could lose their top player next offseason.

New York acquired superstar slugger Juan Soto in a trade with the San Diego Padres last offseason, and he has been exactly as advertised for the Yankees so far this season. He was the club's best player and is currently the leader in the American League to receive Most Valuable Player honors.

Soto is a star and the New York move for him made perfect sense, but he will be a free agent at the end of the season, so it is uncertain whether or not he will remain with the club for the foreseeable future.

New York will certainly try to keep Soto, but there will be many clubs showing interest in him. He'll get a massive contract and that's why it makes sense for him to enter free agency rather than sign a team-friendly contract early.

While this makes perfect sense, it's still nerve-wracking that the Yankees have to wait and see what happens to him. He even dodged a question from Jon Heyman of the New York Post about his future with the Yankees.

“Soto does and says everything right, and he usually says it with a smile,” Heyman said. “He's obviously having fun here, unless he's as good an actor as he is as good a batsman. He especially loves the Bleacher Creatures appeal. (I didn't have to ask, but for the record, I did it anyway, and he confirmed it. He loves it.” !) There's just one small downside that almost everyone knows. And that is that he could be a short-timer as a free agent after the season Lingering, no question in the two minutes I spent with him on Saturday before Soto had to rush off to his pregame hitters' meeting.

“I had just enough time to ask the $64,000 question: Does he want to stay in pinstripes? No wonder, I would have almost as good a chance of solving world peace. Too early to tell, Soto said. “I mean, right. 'Now I'm not getting to know the team yet,'” Soto said before the Yankees' 5-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers.'”

It's not surprising that Soto hasn't committed to a long-term future with the Yankees, as he's sure to receive some massive contract offers in free agency, but that's concerning. We'll have to wait until the offseason to see how his contract situation develops.
