COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — One person died at Ohio Stadium on Sunday after falling from the stands during Ohio State University's graduation ceremony.

University spokesman Ben Johnson provided few additional details. He said police and other emergency responders were on scene. The university will provide counseling and other support resources to those affected, Johnson said.

An eyewitness told the Columbus Dispatch, which has reporters on the scene, that the person fell just as the graduating seniors were passing the area where the fall occurred. Opening ceremony speakers made no mention of the incident, the Dispatch reported.

WBNS TV, citing Columbus police, reported that paramedics pronounced the person dead at 12:25 p.m. The ceremony was scheduled to begin at noon and last two and a half to three hours, OSU officials said.

This breaking story will be updated as further details become available.
