NDSU Baseball defeated South Dakota State 7-6 in extras

BROOKINGS, SD – Cadyn Schwabe delivered a game-winning RBI single in the 11th inning to help the North Dakota State baseball team defeat South Dakota State 7-6 in a marathon 11-inning game Saturday afternoon at Erv Huether Field.

With the win, the Bison (18-25-1, 13-9-1 Summit) have won each of their last four games and secured their sixth Summit League series of the season. The loss drops South Dakota State to 18-27 (9-15 Summit) on the season.

NDSU combined for 15 strikeouts, their highest season average, after using six different pitchers in the contest. Logan Knight started with eight strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Seth Thompson (2-0) earned the victory with a strikeout over 1.1 innings while Hunter Rosenbaum picked up his first career save and ended the final inning with a strikeout.

The Bison scored a total of eight goals as a team Sam Canton He set the pace with four RBI, two hits and a run.

NDSU took an early 3-1 lead in the third inning after Canton launched his second three-run home run of the weekend to right field. Luke Luskey answered for the Jackrabbits in the bottom half of the third with a two-run home run of his own, tying the contest at 3-3 after three complete innings.

Canton regained the lead for NDSU with an RBI groundout to make the score 4-3 in the fifth inning. Davis Hamilton closed the frame for the Bison with a two-RBI home run to right field, extending the lead to 6-3. Luskey responded for the Jackrabbits in the bottom half with his second home run of the contest, cutting the deficit to two, 6-4, through five complete frames.

The Jackrabbits continued to fight back and decide the battle after Dawson Parry hit a solo home run in the seventh and Cael Frost added another solo home run in the ninth to tie the game at 6-6. Schwabe led off NDSU with an RBI single in the 11th inning to score Will Busch to secure the 7-6 win.

NDSU will complete its series at South Dakota State tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m
