Mike Bianco and Ole Miss Rebels face the challenge of defeating the Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday

OXFORD – Can the Ole Miss Rebels bolster their postseason resume with a series win against the Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday? That is certainly the goal of head coach Mike Bianco, who has expected consistency from his team throughout the 2024 season.

After his team's confident and decisive win on Saturday, Bianco was asked how he thought his team had responded to this quest for consistency over the last few weeks. Ole Miss has now won the SEC series against the Auburn Tigers and A&M in a row and is therefore pleased with the current development of its squad as the regular season ends.

The Rebels weren't able to complete the win over the Tigers last weekend, but they have another chance to reach that mark this weekend against the Aggies.

“Obviously in SEC play it's hard to say we didn't do that this weekend or even last weekend,” Bianco said, “but it's a challenge that we have to show again tomorrow. We didn't make it last Sunday.” “I didn't show up. It was just one of those tough games, and that’s what happens in baseball.”

What Bianco expects from the Rebels on Sunday is that Saturday's game doesn't affect their level of play. Even if there was a win the day before, every competition is a new challenge and it is important to put the previous game behind you to aim for another win.

“That’s the challenge for all teams that are good or want to be good,” said Bianco. “Can you put the game you just played behind you and show up the next day and play really hard, regardless of what happened the day before? And that comes with defeats. Good teams lose too, but you have to show up the next day, and that's what makes them so good.

“They usually win the next day. But even the good teams, when they win, can show up the next day and put that behind them, regardless of whether it's a winning streak. Don't be satisfied. Someone will win.”, someone will lose. We have to win.

The Rebels rallied from a deficit to claim a 4-3 win over Texas A&M on Friday. On Saturday, they dominated from start to finish en route to a final score of 10-2. First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on SEC Network+.
