May 18, 2024 – Kathy Lee Alexander

Kathy Lee Alexander, 77, of Elgin, IL, died at 12:16 p.m. May 8, 2024 at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Elgin. She was born on August 15, 1946 in Oakland, California. Her parents were Leona (Timm) Alexander and Dr. Raymond A. Alexander. They preceded her in death.

Kathy graduated from Lindenwood College and worked as a teacher for 40 years: 17 years in the Richardson Independent School District in Texas, 18 years at Our Savior Lutheran School in Springfield, and 5 years in the U46 School District in Elgin. Many students were grateful for her support. She particularly enjoyed sharing her enthusiasm for the novel “Who Troubles the Nightingale” with her 8th grade students. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her family. Several family members, including her grandson Ty, gave her the nickname Kitty. She enjoyed traveling to warm places like beaches.

Ms. Alexander is survived by a son Christopher Heisler of Elgin, Illinois, a daughter Tiffany (Heisler) Calahan and husband Tim Calahan of Austin, Texas and three grandchildren, Jacob Heisler (9), Ty Calahan (6) and Liam Heisler (5).

She is survived by two sisters, Carol Baril and husband Raymond Baril, and Linda Hanson and husband Jim Hanson, two brothers, Michael Alexander and wife Ruthie Alexander, and Dr. David Alexander and wife Dr. Ingrid Alexander and many cousins. Nieces and nephews.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Springfield, IL or to the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition.

A private family gravesite will be held at Old Shiloh Cemetery in Mount Vernon. The funeral follows.

Friends may call on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
