Emmy Russell hopes to “climb” to the top of “American Idol” with Miley Cyrus' beautiful cover.

Cyrus, 31, began her career as the title character Hannah Montana, about a young girl who leads a double life as a pop star. In 2009, the pop star scored her first solo country hit with “The Climb”. Written for Hannah Montana: The Movie, the country-pop ballad, describes life as a difficult but rewarding journey. Emmy Russell—another up-and-coming musician with famous country roots—couldn't have chosen a more apt portrayal of her American idol Trip.

Recently, 25-year-old Russell decided to heed the words of her late grandmother, country music legend Loretta Lynn. The Tennessee singer-songwriter finally plucked up the courage to give it a try American idol. Their rise to the top 5 was not always easy. She battled nerves and critics on social media — all while finding her place in the Lynn family legacy. Tonight (Sunday, May 12), Russell nailed the theme of Disney night with a blistering cover of Cyrus' “The Climb.”

He doesn't say whether fellow judge Luke Bryan knows anything about his next colleague. “I don't know who her potential successor might be, but it's fun to be a part of it,” the “Knockin' Boots” singer recently said American songwriter. “And I think Katy probably starts world tours and stuff like that every year, so she probably had to make a decision several months in advance to put her plans into action.”
