Ohio University Chillicothe is hosting a Red Cross blood drive

CHILLICOTHE – Ohio University Chillicothe will host an American Red Cross blood drive on May 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Shoemaker Center.

“Ohio University Chillicothe is committed to strengthening our community and helping patients in need through blood donations,” Britney Hamman, assistant professor of teaching in OHIO Chillicothe’s nursing program, said in a news release. “With this blood donation campaign, we want to give employees, colleagues and neighbors the opportunity to help save lives.”

Blood is a perishable product that can only come from voluntary blood donors. Since blood is needed every two seconds in the United States, blood supplies must be constantly refilled, according to the Red Cross.

“We urge community members to consider donating blood and ensure patients in local hospitals have a supply of blood when needed. There is no better feeling than knowing that your blood donation can give someone a second chance at life. Even if you can’t donate, you can still make a difference in patients’ lives by sponsoring a blood drive or volunteering at a local fundraiser,” Hamman said.

All blood types are needed, and there is an urgent need for type O blood donors and platelet donors.

Please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or schedule an appointment online. Donors present in May 2024 will be entered into a weekly drawing for a 4-person zipline gift certificate from Hocking Hills Canopy Tours. Streamline your donation experience and save up to 15 minutes by visiting for your pre-donation reading and medical history questions answered on the day of your appointment.

Walk-ins are also welcome, but people who stop by without making an appointment first typically have to wait longer to donate. For more information, visit the American Red Cross website.

This blood drive is sponsored by OHIO Chillicothe's Wellness and Safety Committee
