Florida RB Sebastian Cruz gets a visit from CJ Spiller and will camp in Clemson

With his man already committed to the 2025 class, running backs coach CJ Spiller has turned his attention to the next recruiting class.

Last week, Spiller stopped by Fleming High School (Florida) to inquire about 2026 RB Sebastian Cruz. Since the 1.80 m tall defender, like Spiller, was a track and field star, the two had a lot in common.

“I really like him,” Cruz told The Clemson Insider. “We talked a little bit about track and field and how he ran a 10.3 and I ran a 10.9. However, he is still far from his speed. And how he then went to the NFL. It’s just kind of a getting-to-know-you thing.”

Cruz plans to camp in Clemson on June 4th. It will be his first time on campus and he comes to get the attention of the coaches and learn more about Dabo Swinney's program.

“I want to compete,” Cruz said. “I try to be successful and get the attention of the coaches in the hope that they will offer me something. I would also like to know more about the culture and the family atmosphere. Everything about school.”

Army and Iowa State have already offered Cruz, and when he compares Clemson to those two schools and some other schools he hears about, a few things stand out.

“They always have one of the best defenses,” he said. “They’re a big ACC school … that atmosphere. And the people of bond create there.”

The Tigers will begin offering recruits to the 2026 class next month, and Cruz hopes to take the first step toward becoming a recruit when he reports to camp next month.

“That would be huge,” Cruz said. “It would be great to get this offer from Clemson. It would be such a blessing. I would just feel very special and a great honor if they used my skills.”

While he's still very early in the process and hasn't set a specific timeline for a decision, Cruz knows what he's looking for in a school. Academics will play a big role, as will culture.

“I’m looking for culture,” Cruz said. “I'm looking for a good relationship with my head coach, my position coach and the players on campus. And definitely education.”
