Memorial Day 2024 commemorative events throughout Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday in May and honors the men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military.

It became an official federal holiday in 1971, but in the years following the Civil War it was originally known as Decoration Day.

Below is a county-by-county list of memorial events in Central Florida:

Cape Canaveral: Memorial Day at American Legion 348 | May 27th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m

Matt Simpson will play an All-American set in honor of the veterans.

Mims: Memorial Day Ceremony at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery | May 27th at 10am

The VA is proud to host public Memorial Day remembrance ceremonies at more than 130 of our national cemeteries.

Cocoa: 19th Annual Memorial Day Tribute | May 27th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m

Come to Riverfront Park in Cocoa Village for the annual Memorial Day celebration. Each year, the City of Cocoa takes time to honor fallen war veterans with a guest speaker, a special flag folding ceremony, a 21-gun salute, playing taps, a moment of silence, entertainment and more.

Merritt Island: Memorial Day Commemoration | May 27th from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m

Memorial service at the Brevard County Veterans Memorial Center. LTC Tim Thomas (RET) USA is the keynote speaker with a special lecture by COL Herman Cole (RET) USAF.


Palm Coast: Memorial Day Ceremony: Remembering America's Heroes | May 27th from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m

The city will host a memorial service to remember the men and women who gave their lives serving the U.S. military. The ceremony begins at 8 a.m. at Heroes Memorial Park.


Groveland: Remembrance Day Ceremony | May 27th from 8-9:30 a.m

Join the City of Groveland as we remember our heroes this Memorial Day at the EL Puryear Building and Veteran's Park.

Leesburg: Memorial Day Program | May 25th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m

Join Leesburg as we take a day to honor our fallen soldiers at Veteran's Memorial Park.


Ocala: The MURPH Challenge | May 27th from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m

The MURPH Challenge will present a series of workouts honoring the memories of our veterans on May 25, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. After training, spend Memorial Day at this Ocala landmark, which features a memorial room for various fallen heroes with more than 5,000 bricks, 200 benches and 100 plaques. Stroll through the park grounds and learn about the history of various veterans.


Apopka: Memorial service | May 27th at 11am

The City of Apopka and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10147 would like to invite the public to join us at the Veterans Memorial at Edgewood/Greenwood Cemetery as we honor the lives and legacies of our fallen military heroes.

Winter garden: Memorial Day Community Ceremony | May 27th from 8:30-9:30 a.m

Please join us for the Memorial Day community ceremony to honor and remember our local veterans who gave their lives in wartime or while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Ocoee: Remembrance Day Ceremony | May 23rd at 11am

Ocoee will honor fallen soldiers at its annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Ocoee Lakeshore Center. The keynote speaker is retired Lt. Col. Yolanda Frazier, who has served in the U.S. Army for 30 years. In addition to the keynote speaker, the Ocoee Police Honor Guard will present the colors and carry a wreath that will be placed on the city's Memorial Wall. Ocoee High School student Marcus Jiao will play taps and perform the national anthem. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.


St Cloud: Wreath-laying ceremony for Remembrance Day | May 27th at 10am

Honoring the men and women who gave their lives protecting our nation's freedom with a wreath-laying ceremony at Mount Peace Cemetery.


Haines City: Remembrance Day Ceremony | May 27th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m

Families are invited to attend the Military Court of Honor at Railroad Park in downtown Haines City to remember those who lost their lives during their military service to our country.


Sanford: Memorial Day Commemoration | May 27th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m

Sanford will host a Memorial Day remembrance ceremony at 9 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park with patriotic music and guest speakers. Preserved military vehicles, as well as vehicles from police, fire and sheriff's departments, will be on display on Heroes' Avenue, followed by the ceremony at 10 a.m


Bushnell: Remembrance Day Ceremony | May 27th at 11am

VA is proud to host public Memorial Day ceremonies at more than 130 of our national cemeteries, including Florida National Cemetery. The event's keynote speaker will be Col. Thomas Bowman with the presentation of the colors by the Florida Mounted Equestrian Team.


Deltona: Memorial Day ride and event | May 27th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m

Join VEMA and the City of Deltona on Monday, May 27, in honoring our soldiers, firefighters, law enforcement and all first responders who gave their best. The Memorial Day ride begins and ends at Deltona City Hall.

Port Orange: Remembrance Day Ceremony | May 27th from 10-11:30 a.m

Join the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3282 and the Port Orange Parks and Recreation Department at Veterans Park to honor those who have served our country and sacrificed for our freedom.
