Why the government wants to seize illegal marijuana grow houses in Maine

The federal government wants to seize four homes in Maine that were recently raided by police for alleged illegal marijuana cultivation.

Late last week, four lawsuits were filed in U.S. District Court in Bangor. This was the first step in granting the federal government ownership of the land through civil forfeiture.

This is the latest step in a surge in police activity since the start of the year, with local and state law enforcement issuing warrants to shut down more than 40 properties across the state suspected of illegal marijuana cultivation.
