Caitlin Clark vs NY Liberty as Indiana Fever visits Barclays Center

NEW YORK – The Caitlin Clark mania has arrived in Brooklyn.

Clark and the Indiana Fever, the former Iowa star and currently the biggest story in the WNBA, are at Barclays Center to play the New York Liberty today at 1 p.m

And while the Liberty will certainly have plenty of fans in the stands, there will also be plenty of people here to see Clark in person – fans wearing her jersey could be seen on the streets surrounding the arena nearly three hours before kickoff.

This will be the Fever's third game of the season. The Liberty defeated Indiana 102-66 on Thursday in Indianapolis, with Clark scoring nine points on 2 of 8 shooting (1 of 7 from distance) with seven rebounds and six assists.

The No. 1 overall pick faces an adjustment to the pros, which isn't a surprise to any rookie.

The PA announcer announced the Fever's starting five, and the first four starters didn't generate much of a reaction.

Then he announced “No. 22 from Iowa, Caitlin Clark” and that changed with loud applause and cheers.

There was a strong crowd in attendance for the game, the Liberty's home opener.

As a WNBA rookie, Clark achieved many firsts.

Playing in New York is one of them.

“I didn’t,” Clark said of playing in the City. “No AAU, no high school, nothing. That is fun. This arena is great. I'll enjoy checking out all the new WNBA arenas and breaking them down from the norm, so to speak. This is certainly one that is definitely trending.” I know the audience will be incredible.

Many fans were already in the building and around the field to watch Clark and her teammates warm up before the game. There are numerous “Clark” and “22” signs hanging in the stands.

Before returning to the locker room, Clark signed a ton of autographs and took a few selfies.

It's one thing to hear and read about the attention that has been following Clark for some time. But seeing the impact it had on fans in person is another matter.
