Isolated thunderstorms are expected in central Illinois through Wednesday

Springfield, IL – Central Illinois residents should enjoy the weather today as isolated thunderstorms will develop this evening and continue into Wednesday. Today's forecast calls for isolated afternoon storms north of I-72 with temperatures between 87 and 91 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, the threat of severe weather increases significantly Tuesday, particularly near and west of the Illinois River. There is a Level 3 risk in this area, with storms likely to become more numerous through the evening. Damaging winds of 60-70 miles per hour are the biggest concern, with a smaller chance of hail or tornadoes. Temperatures on Tuesday will be between 87 and 90 degrees.

Scattered showers and storms are expected Monday, particularly west of I-55, with highs between 84 and 87 degrees. By Wednesday, the storm chance will be highest south of I-70, with temperatures cooling to 75 to 83 degrees.

Thursday brings a welcome break from the storms with mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 77 and 80 degrees. Residents are advised to keep abreast of weather conditions and prepare for persistent isolated thunderstorms from this evening into midweek.
