Theresa Latella Obituary – Trenton, NJ

TRENTON – Theresa N. Latella, 93, departed this world with her family on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at the Capital Health-Hopewell Campus. Theresa was born in Trenton and was a lifelong Trentonian.

Theresa graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1936 and worked for the New Jersey Governor's Office. She then transferred to the Army Air Core at what is now Trenton-Mercer Airport. During World War II, she transferred to Miami, Florida, where she supervised 300 civilian and military personnel delivering supplies to troops in Europe and Africa. She moved back to New Jersey to McGuire Air Force Base until she left to start her family.

She has worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 50 years, most recently as a Postage Due Clerk at the Route 130 Processing Center. During her time there, she helped develop and direct a job training program for Trenton youth, many of whom became postal workers, organized many postal/community activities, and served as a women's program representative.

Theresa loved learning and taking on new challenges. She was a member of Toastmasters International, the Union Public Speakers Club, and PowerTalk International, the Electrifying Orators Club. She was a skilled seamstress, craftswoman, avid gardener and a lover of art and music. Above all, she was dedicated to her family and used her talents to support her children's many activities, encouraging and supporting them to always be present in their lives.

Daughter of the late James A. Giordano and Mary N. Frascella Giordano and widow of Gordon B. Latella, she was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Giordano, and a sister, Lucille Raitch. Theresa is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Latella-Taylor of Texas, Nancy K. Latella Rivers and husband Keith E. Rivers of Virginia and Janice E. Latella of Trenton; a brother, John J. Giordano and his wife Ellen of New York and Florida; sister-in-law Mary Latella of Trenton and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 16, at Gruerio Funeral Home, 311 Chestnut Avenue, Trenton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W. Upper Ferry Road, West Trenton. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Mausoleum, 1200 Cedar Lane, Hamilton. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to Theresa's family from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Gruerio Funeral Home.
