Live score updates in the NCAA Gainesville Regional final against South Alabama

Florida softball had plenty of time to recover before its matchup with South Alabama in the 2024 NCAA Gainesville Regional Finals on Sunday.

Florida will get a rematch with South Alabama in the regional final after the Jaguars, powered by two home runs from catcher Sasha Willems, defeated Florida Gulf Coast University 5-1 late Saturday night.

The Florida Gators (48-12) reached the final with a 9-1 win over South Alabama and have won 10 straight overall. Florida has outscored its first two regional opponents by a combined score of 15-1.

“This is an offensive team,” Florida coach Tim Walton said. “You can see that pretty clearly by what we're doing, and all of our decisions this year are based on offense, trying to score more runs just because of us.” “We have a younger (pitching) staff and trying to score as many runs as possible…For me, it’s an offensive team that’s getting better on defense.”

South Alabama must beat the Gators twice on Sunday to win the regional title. The second game would take place around 6:30 p.m. if necessary

“We’re in survival and progression mode,” South Alabama coach Becky Clark said. “Obviously they are a very good football club. We played close against them today.
