Hannah Montana Alum Morgan York Reveals Why She Quit Acting: 'It Wasn't Fun Anymore'

Hannah Montana Alum Morgan York explains why she decided to leave her acting days behind.

The former child star, 28, recently opened up about her decision in a TikTok video, responding to a fan's question about whether she misses acting. York initially responded, “No,” before elaborating on why she left Hollywood.

“I started acting when I was nine, and from the beginning my mom told me, 'As soon as it's no fun anymore or you want to stop, you can stop,'” said York, who played Miley Stewart's classmate Sarah Hannah Montana, said. “I never thought it would be a lifelong thing. I even remember as a kid trying to imagine myself as an adult actor and just not seeing it. I saw that I at least stopped acting when I started college and then just never went back.”

“I think I also completely underestimated how much uproar there would be about it. I thought I could just leave and for the next 11 years of my life no one would ask me, 'Why did you stop acting?' But yeah, it wasn't fun anymore. My passion for acting didn't outweigh all the costs, like the time you have to spend on set with your loved ones and the constant scrutiny from people,” she continued.

York said that her “passion” for writing fiction “was just much stronger and I preferred it” than acting.

In another TikTok post, York said she realized she wanted to pursue fiction writing when she was in fourth grade. “I already really enjoyed writing, it really boosted my confidence and made me think, 'Oh, maybe I'd be really good at writing books.' This year I actually started writing my 'first book,'” she said, noting that she is currently writing her seventh book.

York said that she “hasn't had any luck in the publishing department yet” but is “confident” she will find success down the road.
