Here's how to get free tickets to Michigan Central's reopening concert today

(CBS DETROIT) — Registration for free tickets to the Michigan Central Station reopening concert and tours begins Tuesday.

The The station was purchased by Ford Motor Company in 2018 and is scheduled to reopen June 6 after being closed for the past 36 years. The general public is welcome to join in the reopening celebrations.

The festivities begin with “Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central,” a 90-minute, standing-room-only concert outside the train station. The cast hasn't been announced yet, but according to a press release, it will feature “some of Detroit's biggest stars.” The concert is produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment, an Emmy-winning production company that has produced many Super Bowl halftime shows.

“There’s no place like Detroit, and we couldn’t be more excited to showcase the city with its own incredible artists,” Collins said. “With this new chapter in Detroit’s history, we will host an unforgettable welcome party for Michigan Central that celebrates the visions of these unique artists bonded by a shared love of their city.”

The event will also feature short films and appearances by local leaders and creatives from Detroit and Southeast Michigan to discuss stories of innovation.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the concert starts at 8:30 p.m

Registration for free tickets begins Tuesday at noon on the Michigan Central website.

In addition to the concert, free guided tours will be offered for 10 days. The tours give visitors a look at the station's restored ground floor, as well as exhibitions, entertainment and art. The tours start on June 7th and last until June 16th.
