Obituary for Aurel Kennelly – CA

KENNELLYAurel Ivadelle Kennelly died on July 22, 2005 at the age of 93 in Santa Cruz, CA, where two of her daughters live. Mrs. Kennelly lived in Pasadena from 1937 to 1997. Aurel Kennelly was born and raised in Pembina, North Dakota, where she graduated from Mayville Teacher's College with a North Dakota teaching certificate. She was a teacher in a one-room rural school from 1931 to 1937 when she met and married James Kennelly, a farmer and school board president from St. Thomas, North Dakota. They had five children and were married for 34 years until his death. Mrs. Kennelly and her husband, Jim, lived in Pasadena, CA during the winter months, then Aurel, her husband and children would travel to their farm in St. Thomas, North Dakota during the summer months to harvest wheat and potatoes. Aurel felt it was important that her children had the unique opportunity to experience both farm life and suburban life. After her husband's death, Mrs. Kennelly continued to manage the rental properties in Pasadena and the family farmland in North Dakota and enjoyed the many trips to the farm and visits with family in North Dakota for the next 26 years. Mrs. Kennelly is survived by her daughters Janet McGrath of Grants Pass, Oregon, Dorothy Fry and Dana Kassel of Aptos, CA, her sons James Warner Kennelly of Glaston, North Dakota and David Kennelly of Laguna Beach, CA, her sister Doris Woods of Pasadena, CA, and her brother Bert Warner of Pembina, North Dakota, and ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A vigil will be held on July 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Cabot & Sons, Pasadena, CA. Funeral services will be held on July 30th at 10 a.m. at St. Phillip the Apostle Church, Pasadena, CA. Final wakes will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, Montebello, CA. Donations preferred to be made to the Hospice Caring Project, 6851 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA 95003. Cabot & Sons, Pasadena, Direction
