“When we heard how many power lines had fallen, we knew that the recovery work would take a long time.”

Three weeks later, for some Tallahassee neighbors affected by the May 10 tornadoes, the road to recovery is just beginning.

Monique Ellsworth and the team at Second Harvest knew they had to act quickly to support the affected families.

Thanks to community partners and volunteers, 26 feeding events have been held since the tornadoes.

“I find it incredible to see how many of his volunteers are willing to come to the food bank and help us at the distribution point.”

It is not only volunteers who help.

“This storm was unique. It came completely unexpectedly and affected people.”

Comcast is doing its part to help our neighbors by supporting ABC 27's Tornado Relief Fund…with a generous donation of $10,000.

Florida Regional Senior Vice President Jeff Buzzelli says his team has seen some of the storm's impacts firsthand – and they want to do what they can to help families in Big Bend.

“Many residential and commercial customers have been hit hard by this storm and need help. We believe it is important to help in the community.”

To alleviate the suffering that was already great before the tornadoes, people are needed throughout Tallahassee and beyond.

Data from Feeding America shows that during the week of these storms, more than 37,000 people in Leon County were classified as food insecure.

Both Second Harvest and Comcast emphasize the need and hope local businesses will offer their help.

“This is an opportunity for businesses in our community to look around, take stock of their options and really get involved and help their neighbors.”

“I ask every company that can help to join us!
