Thunderstorms and heavy rains hit Eastern PA: See latest forecast

Meteorologists say some thunderstorms with heavy rain and gusty winds are expected in the Keystone State on Wednesday.


PENNSYLVANIA – Meteorologists say some thunderstorms with heavy rain and gusty winds are expected in the Keystone State on Wednesday.

While thunderstorms are most likely to hit northeastern Pennsylvania, a low chance is expected for the southeastern part of the state Wednesday afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service said.

While brief showers and gusts of around 16 km/h are possible, temperatures of 25 to 25 degrees on Wednesday are unlikely to result in severe weather, the weather service added.

AccuWeather forecast temperatures midweek to be 5 to 15 degrees below historical average, with highs around 21 degrees and low humidity.

The rain showers are expected to continue until Thursday, with daytime temperatures between 21 and 25 degrees (which will make for very pleasant, if not slightly cool, weather for

From Friday and over the weekend it should be dry again, the next storms could start as early as Sunday or early next week, the weather service said.

Here is the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Wednesday: Slight chance of rain and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Increasing cloud cover, high temperature around 25 °C. Southwest wind around 8 km/h. Chance of precipitation 20%.

Wednesday night: A chance of rain and thunderstorms, especially before 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. Southwest wind around 5 mph, becoming northwest in the evening. A 50% chance of precipitation. Nine precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, but higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: Slight chance of rain after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, high around 24 °C. North wind 8 to 16 km/h. Chance of precipitation 20%.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, low around 53. East wind around 5 mph, decreasing.

Friday: Sunny, high around 74°F. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday night: Mostly clear, low around 53.
