Northeastern sets sights on New York, merges with Marymount Manhattan College

Northeastern University will merge with Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, according to Northeastern President Joseph Aoun. The union will come with a new name for the Upper East Side school: Northeastern University — New York City.

Marymount is a liberal arts college that offers 34 different majors in fields ranging from psychology to marketing to behavioral neuroscience. It’s also well known for its performing arts programs.

Once the merger is complete, Marymount’s approximately 1,400 undergraduate students will transition into Northeastern programs that align with their current studies. There will be no additional cost for the students during the transition, according to the press release.

The merger has been approved by the governing boards of both institutions and is subject to final approval by state and federal regulators.
