Obituary for Leo Bonanni – Hamilton, NJ

HAMILTON – Leo Bonanni, 94, of Hamilton Township, died in Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born on November 15, 1917 in Trenton to Giacomo and Nazzarena Compagnucci Bonanni and lived his entire life in the Trenton and Hamilton Township area.

Leo was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1937. After the war, he worked at the Casa Lido Liquor Store in Trenton and in 1953 joined U.S. Steel, retiring in 1983 after 30 years of service. In his spare time, Leo enjoyed visiting Philadelphia Park and Monmouth Park race tracks. He was a member of the Hamilton Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed playing bocce ball. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his fond memories are his family, his daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Richard A. Merlino of Ewing Township; his three grandchildren and their spouses, Richard and Sandy Merlino of Simpsonville, SC, Darren and Bria Merlino of Ewing Township, and Christopher and Samantha Merlino of Hamilton Square; three great-grandchildren, Richard E. Merlino and Nicholas and Anthony Merlino; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may visit Thursday evening between 6 and 8 p.m. at the Buklad Memorial Home, 2141 South Broad St., Hamilton. Burial will be private. Special thanks go to all of his neighbors who always kept a watchful eye on Leo.
