IU basketball adds nonconference home game against South Carolina to 2024-25 schedule

BLOOMINGTON – IU announced Wednesday the addition of South Carolina to its 2024 nonconference schedule, adding depth to a November and December schedule headlined by the Hoosiers' trip to Battle 4 Atlantis.

Indiana had hoped for a meaningful home game for its non-conference schedule, with Bahamas-based team Atlantis expected to draw most of Mike Woodson's attention. In South Carolina, the Hoosiers face a team that won 26 games last season and earned a sixth seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Lamont Paris' team pulled off one of the biggest turnarounds in the SEC last winter after winning just 11 games in his first season in Columbia and four in the conference. The Gamecocks finished Paris' second year with a nine-game lead, 13-5, in the SEC. Home wins over Mississippi State and Kentucky and a surprise road win over Tennessee were the highlights of their efforts.

IU hosts South Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 16, toward the end of the second week of the season. Based on the calendar and past scheduling behavior, it will likely be Indiana's fourth or fifth non-conference game.

Given the condensed Atlantis format of three games in three days, there's a chance the Hoosiers will have already played nine of their 11 assigned non-conference games by the end of November, making this month both crucial and exciting as Woodson assembles his new roster after a successful spring combing through the transfer list.

IndyStar understands that IU's game against South Carolina is a one-time affair and that there are no plans for the Hoosiers to return in the other direction at any point. Financial terms of the game contract were not available at press time.
