Orlando teenager killed in traffic accident with Lynx bus in Orange

A 19-year-old man was killed Wednesday night when his car was struck by a Lynx bus at an intersection in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

When FHP officers arrived at the scene, they pronounced the driver of the 2004 Infiniti G35 dead, the report states. The driver was an Orlando resident.

The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. when the bus, driven by a 59-year-old Orlando man, was traveling south on Econlockhatchee Trail and attempted to turn left onto Valencia College Lane, the report said. The driver of the car was traveling north in the left lane and both vehicles had green lights.

The left front of the bus struck the left side of the car, causing it to hit a concrete wall, the report said. The car then rolled over and struck a pedestrian light.

In a statement from Lynx, Matt Friedman, director of marketing and communications, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the young man involved in last night's accident. We are working with law enforcement as they continue their investigation.”

Neither the cause of death nor the names of the drivers were disclosed.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
