Reactions of the delegations from Rhode Island and Massachusetts to the guilty verdict against Trump

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) — Members of the Rhode Island and Massachusetts federal delegation released comments following the guilty verdict against former President Donald Trump in the hush money trial.

Rep. Seth Magaziner said Trump lacks “honesty and integrity”:

Today's verdict confirms that all people in our country are equal before the law. We have known for years that Donald Trump does not have the honesty and integrity to hold the Oval Office, and his criminal conviction today is yet another reason why.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, meanwhile, said Trump had shown “zero respect for the law”:

A man who has been found guilty on 34 counts and who shows no respect for the rule of law is not fit to lead the world's greatest nation. Only in honest courtrooms could the former president not get out of trouble by lying and bullying. Americans trust juries for good reason.

Senator Jack Reed said Trump will face a “full and fair trial”:

Today, a jury of twelve American citizens found former President Trump guilty on 34 counts. After a full and fair trial in which everyone had the opportunity to testify, examine the evidence, and hear arguments from the defense and the prosecution, our legal system has spoken.

Rep. Jake Auchincloss said Republicans had nominated a “convicted felon” for president:

Republicans vote against border security, defend insurgents, put guns in our schools, and now nominate a convicted felon for president. They are not the party of law and order. If Democrats take the initiative for law and order, we will win the election.
