85K students waiting to get into North Carolina charter schools, report shows

RALEIGH, N.C. (CITC) —

North Carolina is facing demands to open more charter schools as over 85,000 students sit on waitlists to be admitted into the state’s existing options.

North Carolina is currently home to 210 charter schools, according to the state’s annual report. The report notes during the 2022-23 academic year more than 145,000 students were enrolled in schools representing over 10% of the state’s total enrollment.
