Gillim wins 101st Loudon Classic – Roadracing World Magazine

Veteran Hayden Gillim recovered on Saturday to win the 101st Loudon Classic presented by NEMRR at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire.

The 25-lap race was scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m. local time, but was delayed by almost two hours due to light rain showers and the time needed to dry the track using the NHMS jet dryers.

After the 100th Loudon Classic was red-flagged ten times due to rain, race organizers did everything they could to ensure this year's Classic took place on a dry track. Their efforts and patience paid off: the race went from start to finish without any interruptions or major incidents, and with only one accident.

Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki's Tyler Scott took the holeshot from pole position and led the first 20 laps on his GSX-R750 equipped with Dunlop tires. Gillim, on the other hand, got off to a bad start on his Suzuki GSX-R750 equipped with Vesrah/Steel Commander and finished the first lap in fourth place.

Gillim worked his way to the front and said he took advantage of Scott's bad luck with the lapping drivers to pass for the lead on lap 21. Gillim then took no chances and sprinted to the checkered flag, winning by 1.513 seconds and taking home the $55,000 first-place cash prize.

Scott, the defending Loudon Classic champion, said he had no problems when he met the first lapper midway through the race, but late in the race he lost time to the lappers and then the lead to Gillim. Scott had to settle for second place and the $35,000 prize money.

Bobby Fong, riding his Wrench Motorcycles Suzuki GSX-R750, was close behind Scott for the first 13 laps, but Fong said he chose a different Dunlop rear tire than Gillim and Scott and lost traction midway through the race. Fong was passed by Gillim on lap 15 but was able to hold onto third place, earning $25,000 and completing a podium comprised entirely of Dunlop and Suzuki GSX-R750 tires.

Stefano Mesa overtook Scott's teammate Teagg Hobbs early in the race to take fourth place, but Mesa felt he and his Pirelli-equipped Boulder Motor Sports Ducati Panigale V2 could not keep up with the pace of the three leaders. The result was Mesa riding a lonely race, finishing in fourth place and $17,000 in prize money.

After being passed by Mesa, Hobbs had to fight off Joseph LiMandri, Jr. of Bauce Racing Yamaha the rest of the way, securing fifth place and the $13,500 prize that comes with it.

LiMandri finished sixth, Yamaha’s Ben Gloddy finished seventh, BARTCON Racing Yamaha’s Eli Block finished eighth, Fong’s teammate/team owner David Anthony finished ninth and veteran Eric Wood rounded out the top 10.
