Baylor executive takes top job at Southwestern Health Resources and Texas Supreme Court rules against women denied abortions

Jenny Reed is the new chief operating officer of Southwestern Health Resources, the clinically integrated network between UT Southwestern Medical Center and Texas Health Resources.. Reed most recently served as senior vice president of value-based care at Baylor Scott & White Health , the accountable care organization for health systems. Reed will lead payer and direct insurer strategies and be responsible for relationships with managed care organizations at SWHR.

The Texas Supreme Court has ruled against more than 20 Texas women who sued the state for delaying or denying abortions during medical emergenciesas the Dallas Morning News. The court rejected an injunction that would have exempted Texans with complicated pregnancies from the state's abortion ban. The justices argued that Texas law already allows life-saving abortions when a woman's life or physical health is in danger. The case, known as Zurawski v. State of Texasgained national attention when plaintiffs shared their stories of how they sought abortions despite the bans. The ruling gives doctors the responsibility to make legal decisions about abortions.

Texas Health Resources has opened a new Breeze Urgent Care center in DeSoto, the first center in the city. Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth has received Joint Commission certification for brain tumors. The hospital was first awarded this certification in 2016, making it the first hospital in the state to receive it. Texas Health Fort Worth's Brain Tumor Program has provided critical resources for patients with high-grade neurological disease for the past eight years. The program offers a variety of treatment options. According to the National Brain Tumor Society, approximately 1 million people in the United States are living with a brain tumor, with 28 percent of cases being malignant.
