Texas fans can get special SWA flights to the Michigan game

According to a June 10 report from KXAN, Texas football fans now have the opportunity to fly directly from Austin Airport to Detroit, MI to attend the exciting non-conference game against the Michigan Wolverines in Week 2 of the upcoming regular season.

There will reportedly be two direct flights from Austin-Bergstrom Airport to Detroit's Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. The two flights will take place on the two days leading up to the Texas-Michigan game on September 7. These two flights will depart at 11:40 a.m. CT on September 5 and 6.

Two round-trip flights from Detroit to Austin will also be available on September 8. The first flight from Detroit to Austin on September 8 will depart at 9:00 a.m. CT and the other will depart at 4:55 p.m. CT.

The Sept. 7 Texas-Michigan game begins at 11 a.m. CT at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. This matchup pits defending national champion Michigan against the Longhorns and is a game that could likely see two teams ranked in the top five in the major preseason polls this fall.

Another highly anticipated Longhorns game that Southwest Airlines will offer direct flights to is Austin's game against the Georgia Bulldogs in mid-October. Southwest Airlines will offer multiple direct flights between Atlanta and Austin for the Texas-Georgia game at DKR in Austin on October 19.

Next season will mark the first time the Longhorns and Wolverines will face each other in one of their home stadiums. The only time Texas and Michigan met on the football field was the 2004-05 Rose Bowl game, where Vince Young led the Longhorns to a late fourth-quarter victory.

Texas and Michigan will play each other twice over the next four years as part of a home-and-home series originally scheduled for 2024 and 2025. To conclude that home-and-home series, the Longhorns will host the Wolverines in 2027 at DKR in Austin.
