Man charged with murder after California deputy he fought with shot woman

On Thursday, June 13, authorities charged a San Diego County man with murder and identified the woman who died when a Riverside County Sheriff's deputy shot her while the man and the deputy reportedly wrestled over the deputy's gun.

Jennifer Rose Dobbins, 30, of Imperial Beach, died at 2:39 a.m. June 11 at Riverside Community Hospital, about 90 minutes after she was injured in the altercation on W. Sixth Street in Corona.

According to the indictment, 32-year-old Eric John Nourani was also charged with attempted murder of a police officer, assault, resisting arrest and resisting arrest with great bodily injury. Nourani pleaded not guilty to all charges in Superior Court in Riverside on Thursday afternoon. He is represented by the public defender's office.

Nourani was held at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside in lieu of $2 million in restitution.

The charges carry a possible life sentence, the complaint states.

Under the state's murder laws, a person can be charged with murder if he or she shows “reckless indifference to human life” and results in the death of another person, even if he or she did not directly cause the fatal injury.
