Three people arrested after fatal shooting of Southern Mississippi cornerback: police

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (WKRG) – Hattiesburg police say several arrests have been made in connection with the shooting of Southern Mississippi cornerback Marcus “MJ” Daniels Jr.

The HPD announced on Facebook that it had arrested three people and charged them with capital crimes. This happened after Daniels was found shot dead in his car on Tuesday evening.

Among those arrested was 18-year-old Orlando May of Hattiesburg. News 5 The names of the other two persons (a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old) cannot be disclosed due to their minors.

The post said May was charged with capital crimes, attempted armed carjacking, fleeing from a serious crime and two counts of auto theft.

Both the unnamed 17-year-old and the unnamed 16-year-old have been charged as adults with felony and attempted armed carjacking, the post said.

Hattiesburg police say the investigation is ongoing, but arrests have already been made.
