Texas EDGE 4-star target Smith Orogbo sets commitment date

According to a post on his X-account on June 16, highly touted four-star edge rusher prospect from Texas and Alief Hastings of Houston (TX) product Smith Orogbo will commit on July 1. Orogbo included pictures of himself in Washington Huskies, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Texas gear in the post on X about his commitment date.

The news of Orogbo setting a decision date on social media comes just after his official visit to Texas from June 14 to 16 ended on Sunday afternoon.

Orogbo has already made official visits to three of the four finalist schools he will choose between in early July, including Washington (May 31), Texas Tech (June 7) and Texas (June 14). The only official visits he has left this summer are Norman and Oklahoma next weekend (June 21).

Last month he also officially visited the SMU Mustangs and the Kansas Jayhawks.

Texas Tech emerged as the favorite in Orogbo's recruitment after completing a successful official visit to Lubbock last weekend. But the early results of Orogbo's official visit to Texas this weekend were very positive.

Oklahoma still has a chance to impress Orogbo at the last minute, as the Sooners will receive their last official visit next weekend before the Houston native makes his decision on July 1.

Texas currently has one edge rusher recruit committed for the Class of 2025, high-four star Lance Jackson from Texarkana (TX) Pleasant Grove. Orogbo and Jackson have both been on campus in Texas for their official visits in recent days.

The Longhorns also hosted a key out-of-state edge rusher this weekend, four-star Marco Jones from Danville, Calif., in the San Ramon Valley, who made an official visit.
