2026 quarterback Dia Bell announces commitment to Texas – The Daily Texan

Steve Sarkisian, the head coach of the Texas football team, has a knack for recruiting top-notch quarterbacks. From Quinn Ewers to Arch Manning, Sarkisian has been involved in the recruitment of several notable quarterbacks over the past five years.

Now he has done it again with four-star recruit Dia Bell, who announced his commitment to Texas at X.

Bell, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is the second-best quarterback and 10th-best prospect in his 2026 class. He is entering his penultimate year of high school and has chosen Texas among 37 other recruiting offers.

Bell's pocket passing portfolio began before he even entered high school. As an eighth-grader, he played four varsity games and had 12 passing attempts and two rushing touchdowns. In his freshman season, he played in nine games and completed 13 of 21 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns, along with 30 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

His sophomore season at American Heritage High School made him more well-known in the recruiting world. Bell threw for 1,929 yards with 20 passing touchdowns and had four interceptions all season.

Bell's recruiting profile isn't the only thing that made his name memorable. His father is Raja Bell, a former NBA shooting guard and two-time member of the NBA All-Defensive Team. Bell played for a variety of teams for 12 seasons and passed his athletic skills on to his son, who also plays basketball in high school and averaged 20.7 points, 5.0 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game in his freshman season.

Bell is the latest name on Sarkisian's recruiting list of high-profile quarterbacks and now the eighth Gunslinger on that list, which began with Bryce Young in 2020 when Sarkisian was coaching at Alabama. Sarkisian was also involved in the recruitment of Jalen Milroe, Ewers, Maalik Murphy, Manning, Trey Owens and KJ Lacey.

Recruiting talented young players is extremely important when considering the longevity and quality of an athletic program. In addition to Bell's signing, Texas enters the 2024 season with one of the best quarterback teams in the country, if not the best.

“Thank you to everyone who gave me the chance to pursue my dreams at your school,” Bell posted on X along with a photo of him in Texas whites. “I'm grateful for all of you and the relationships we've built. These photos are two years old to the day. This was always the plan!”
