Mother of the King of Prussia remembers the birth of her child on the side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike

ABINGTON, Pennsylvania (WPVI) – Andrenna Reid thought she would make it to the hospital when she went into labor over the weekend.

But in a dramatic turn of events, her newborn son Santana Reid had other plans on Sunday morning.

The 32-year-old mother from King of Prussia said the hospital sent her home the day before because she wasn't ready to give birth.

But on Father's Day at 3 a.m. her contractions came faster.

Her husband was at work and she wanted to drop her one-year-old son off with his grandparents before going to the hospital.

Reid, a mother of two, says she had foreseen her outcome, but she just knew she wouldn't make it.

“I'm on the side of the road. I'm on the turnpike. I'm having a baby,” Reid recalls of the 911 call. “She says, 'Pull your seat back and…' Those are the last words I heard.”

Alone on a dark highway shortly after the birth, help arrived from a tow truck driver who was able to bring rescue workers to Reid.

“There's a knock on the door and suddenly there's a tow truck driver,” Reid recalls. “He says, 'Do you need help? Is everything OK?' I was like, 'Oh no, I just had a baby.'”

State troopers and paramedics quickly arrived and took the family to Jefferson Abington Hospital in Montgomery County.

Reid says she never learned the name of the tow truck driver who helped her, but she is so grateful he pulled over to the side of the road.
