9 weeks until Florida State's season opener against Georgia Tech

Can you smell the smell of college football in the air?

Seminole fans, it's almost that time again: In nine weeks, Florida State will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on August 24 in Dublin, Ireland.

It's funny how fast time flies. The Seminoles are looking to prove the doubters wrong after the College Football Playoff committee voted to deny the program a chance to compete for the national championship.

Even though the program will suffer from PTSD for quite some time, head coach Mike Norvell and his staff must find a way to turn things around and focus on the 2024 season, which could be something special for Florida State.

The Seminoles only shot 56% of their production from last season. Jordan Travis, Trey Benson, Johnny Wilson, Keon Coleman, Jaheim Bell, Jared Verse, Braden Fiske, Fabien Lovett Sr, Tatum Bethune, Kalen DeLoach, Renardo Green, Jarrian Jones and Akeem Dent no longer run through that tunnel.

However, Florida State has had good experiences with the transfer portal and the Seminoles still have important players from last year on their roster.

With Florida State's football season getting back underway in nine weeks, I thought it would be appropriate to feature the two players on the Seminoles' roster who wear the number nine jersey: redshirt senior running back Lawrance Toafili and redshirt sophomore linebacker Omar Graham Jr.

The Seminoles signed Roydell Williams from Alabama and Jaylin Lucas from Indiana through the transfer portal, and it seems that Toafili is a somewhat forgotten player in Florida State's offense. The ACC Championship Game MVP will look to show his versatility in his final season in Tallahassee.

Omar Graham Jr. has struggled with injuries in 2023, but he has battled through it nonetheless, appearing in all 14 games and recording 23 total tackles. The linebacker room added Shawn Murphy from Alabama and Cam Riley from Auburn through the transfer portal this offseason, plus they have players like DJ Lundy, Blake Nichelson and Justin Cryer. Graham Jr., however, has a chance to shine in 2024.
