5-star QB Brady Smigiel commits to Florida State on unofficial visit

The Florida State football coaching staff was expecting several highly touted recruits to arrive on campus in Tallahassee this weekend. Many of the recruits were from the 2025 recruiting cycle. Many of the Seminole fans were focused solely on this ranking of the recruits.

They're worth keeping an eye on, as the Seminoles have the 70th-best recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Fans are starting to get tired of their archrivals Miami and Florida getting commitments.

The Seminoles have not secured a commitment for the Class of 2025 since four-star defensive end Javion Hilson transferred from Alabama in January when legendary head coach Nick Saban retired.

The program itself has a combined record of 23-4 over the last two seasons. Head coach Mike Norvell has left his mark on the program with sustained success. You would think that the winning culture would attract highly touted talent to the university.

Things moved in a positive direction Saturday afternoon when Class of 2026 five-star quarterback Brady Smigiel from Newbury Park, Calif., committed to Florida State. We recently wrote about Smigiel, who took an unofficial visit with the Seminoles this weekend.

The talented signal-caller has been on the radar of the Seminoles coaching staff for quite some time after Florida State re-offered him on January 17, 2023. Although Smigiel is from California, this is the second time in two months that he has visited Florida State.

I realize some people aren't considering the 2026 outlook, but this is a big deal for the future foundation of the Seminoles' program. During his two seasons as a starter in Newbury Park, Smigiel has rushed for 7,701 yards with 98 touchdowns and just 25 interceptions.

The Seminoles have a strong core at quarterback for the future with Brock Glenn, Luke Kromenhoek, Trever Jackson, Tramell Jones Jr. (if he sticks to his commitment) and now Brady Smigiel. The coaching staff has found its rhythm when it comes to recruiting quarterbacks.

Next. Big recruiting weekend on June 21st for Florida State. Big recruiting weekend on June 21st for Florida State Seminoles. dark
