Miami QB commit Luke Nickel far exceeds ranking in top 10 at Elite 11 finals

Miami 2025 quarterback commit Luke Nickel received praise throughout the competition at the Elite 11 finals in Los Angeles this week. Andrew Ivins, the 247Sports Director of Scouting ranked Nickel 10th among the 18 QBs who participated in the Elite 11 Finals.

Nickel is considered to be better than his ranking. Nickel is the the 292nd prospect, 25th QB and 33rd player in Georgia out of Alpharetta Milton in the 247Sports 2025 composite rankings. Throughout the week at Elite 11, Nickel has often been praised for his ability to read defenses and mechanics.

The week at Elite 11 showed Nickel’s ability to learn and develop quickly at a high level. Nickel could rise significantly in the 2025 recruiting rankings following his performance at Elite 11. Nickel showed his ability to lead whe Milton won the Georgia 7A Championship during the 2023 season.

At 6’2 and 205 pounds, Nickel is the ideal size for a QB. Nickel will be entering his third season as a starter for Milton in 2024. Nickel has shown his athleticism and versatility by also playing baseball. A late riser, Nickel was named a Max Preps 2023 second-team junior All-American.

“It seemed like each day Luke Nickel got sharper…watching him (Nickel) march down the field and connect with his targets on time. Nickel, who was dealing with an injury in his lower half, is very clean from a mechanical standpoint and is the type of quarterback that will throw wide receivers open. He might not have an elite arm or be a top-flight tester, but he’s consistent in everything he does and is able to diagnose coverages better than most.”

Nickel will be a good fit with 2024 four-star Miami wide receiver signees Ny Carr, Chance Robinson and JoJo Trader. Miami does not have a WR commit in the 2024 class. Nickel’s performance at Elite 11 should help Miami attract interest from WRs in the 2025 class.

Miami hosts highly-sought after 2025 WRs Vernell Brown III, Jaime Ffrench and Dallas Wilson for official visits this month. Three-star prospects Joshua Moore and Daylyn Upshaw were the only WRs who took official visits to Miami the weekend of June 7 when Nickel was also in Coral Gables.
