The strict rule that all male In-N-Out employees in Idaho must follow

When In-N-Out Burger opened its first location in Meridian, the message was pretty clear. Idaho loves In-N-Out. With three more locations in Boise, Nampa and Twin Falls, the feeling seems to be mutual!

There are several Idaho In-N-Out Burger groups on Facebook. If you're ever wondering what the status of the additional locations is, check them out. On June 18, John Sowell posted photos of the location under construction near Boise Towne Square Mall. Although it hasn't been painted yet, it has already taken enough shape that anyone familiar with the chain would recognize it as an In-N-Out restaurant. Fans are trying to predict an opening date.

If history has taught us anything, it's that it's difficult to guess. The company is incredibly secretive when it comes to its grand openings. They didn't announce the opening date of the Meridian location until the day BEFORE it opened. But good news spread quickly. Multiple sources say the location sold a record-breaking 9,100 burgers that day. Lines were between six and eight hours long.

The lines aren't quite as long now, but if you visit the Idaho-N-Out Meridian Idaho Wait Time Tracker group, some people still wait over an hour during the restaurant's peak hours.

Did you notice this at Idaho's In-N-Out?

In-N-Out may have one of the most recognizable uniforms in the fast food industry, but there is a subtle difference between how male and female employees dress at all of its stores, including the Meridian location and future Idaho locations. Mashed stumbled upon a Reddit thread where In-N-Out employees were discussing the company's dress code.

This post revealed that the male employees MUST wear the paper hats unless they are outside on sunny days taking orders by hand. Only the women are allowed to wear the red snapback-style hats. In 2019, a female employee shared 10 Secrets about the restaurant admitted that the paper hats were probably easier to handle. She noted that without bobby pins and proper tucking of the hair, the hats would not fit properly.

If you continue browsing In-N-Out Reddit, you will see that this seems to be a universal problem. There is a whole thread Here, employees reveal their favorite hairstyles that ensure the hat stays in place without strands of hair sticking out or the hat looking lumpy.

However, that hasn't stopped non-employees from taking to the forum and asking how they can get a hat like the employee's. In-N-Out does NOT sell this particular style of hat to the general public. However, there are a handful of former employees sell their used hats on eBay. The offer prices range from $35 to $89.

Mashed quoted a Reddit user who said exceptions can be made if a person identifies with a different gender than the one they were assigned at birth, but this must be communicated to the supervisor.
