Meeting of the starting pitchers

The Arizona Diamondbacks will start Ryne Nelson here and Nelson has a record of 5-6 with a 5.42 ERA and 49 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the Padres, Nelson has a record of 1-2 with a 9.70 ERA and 13 strikeouts. Arizona Diamondbacks Summary

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to keep their momentum going after tying the series 7-5 in overtime on Saturday. The Diamondbacks' victory gave them a chance to continue their winning streak after defeating the Dodgers and A's over the past week and a half.

Diamondbacks continue to strive for Wild Card

Ketel Marte leads the Diamondbacks with 95 hits along with a .284 batting average and 19 doubles with 17 home runs and 51 RBIs, while Lourdes Gurriel Jr. also has 13 home runs and 54 RBIs this season. Corbin Carroll has the team's most stolen bases with 15, while Eugenio Suarez has 98 strikeouts this season. Christian Walker also has 22 home runs with a team-leading 64 RBIs and 94 strikeouts this season.

Summary of the San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres will look to rebound after coming up short in extra innings on Saturday. The loss jeopardizes the Padres' winning streak, which included series victories over the Rangers, Red Sox and Nationals over the past two weeks.

Padres try to keep their name in the hat in NL West

Jurickson Profar has 99 hits, a .314 batting average and 16 doubles with 13 home runs and 58 RBIs. Jake Cronenworth has 54 RBIs, while Fernando Tatis Jr. also has 14 home runs, 86 hits, 71 strikeouts and 8 stolen bases (team-high) this season but is out due to injury. Manny Machado has 12 home runs and 50 RBIs but also 75 strikeouts, while Ha-Seong Kim has 70 hits with 3 triples, 12 doubles, 10 home runs, 40 RBIs and 17 stolen bases (team-high).

Prediction for San Diego Padres vs Arizona Diamondbacks

I'm on the Padres' side here. I think Dylan Cease is the far more reliable starter and it's been a lot easier to back him up in a pitcher-friendly park like Petco. Nelson has had serious problems with the Padres over the course of his career and while he's pitched better on the road, he really struggled in San Diego earlier this season and I think he's struggling here as well. Give me the Padres.
