Understanding depression and isolation in old age

Come to the Lunt Auditorium (74 Lunt Road, Falmouth) on Friday, November 3 at 2 p.m. for the event “Understanding Senior Depression and Isolation.”

Sweetser's chief medical officer, Dr. Marc Kaplan, will speak about senior mental health and the resources available throughout Maine. He will discuss the causes of isolation and explain how to recognize depression.

Marc Kaplan, DO, joined Sweetser in August 1997 and serves as Medical Director. Sweetser is a nonprofit mental health organization that provides evidence-based treatment, support and hope through a statewide network of community-based mental health, recovery and education services. Dr. Kaplan supervises mental health staff both at Sweetser and under contract with other health care organizations. He advises all clinical programs and Sweetser's leadership and management teams. He is board certified in general psychiatry and has completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Kaplan is a member of the Maine Association of Psychiatric Physicians. He has completed a fellowship as a psychiatric medical director with the National Council for Mental Wellbeing and the Hanley Center's Medical Director Leadership program. Dr. Kaplan is also a professional drummer and hosts benefit concerts that have raised thousands of dollars for charities in Maine and across the country.
