Hot takes on Jazz's Kyle Filipowski, Cody Williams vs. Jared McCain, 76ers

It was not a good night for the rookies of the Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz during Summer League play on Wednesday.

First-rounders Jared McCain of Philadelphia (1 of 9, two points) and Cody Williams of Utah (0 of 8, two points) had big problems on the field.

Second-rounders like Kyle Filipowski (two points, five rebounds, one block) and Adem Bona (four points, six rebounds, four steals, two blocks) fared a little better. Only Utah's Isaiah Collier (12 points, three assists, two steals) really shined in Utah's 93-85 win.

Admittedly, the Jazz didn't necessarily need their rookies at their best on a night when Keyonte George scored 31 points.

It was George's second 30-point game of the Summer League this week. The second-year guard has made a good impression so far this summer.

As for the struggling freshmen, both teams played three nights in a row, so McCain's rough night after being excellent in his first two Summer League games may have been influenced by a bit of fatigue, as could his opponents, who played in all three games.

Whatever the case, it wasn't a great night for the newbies not named Collier, and people on social media noticed:

It will be interesting to see how these players develop over the course of the summer. Utah should have minutes to play for this season, especially if the team eventually trades Lauri Markkanen or other veterans.

In Philly, Bona will likely be the third center and only come into play if either Joel Embiid or Andre Drummond are injured. But McCain could earn a legitimate role as a backup, especially if the Sixers are unable to sign more experienced players to minimum contracts as free agents.

There will be some bad nights along the way. Wednesday was one of them.
