Fair season begins in La Salle and Marshall-Putnam counties in the Illinois Valley – Shaw Local

Here are five things you can do this weekend and later this month:

1st La Salle County 4-H Show and Junior Fair: The fair will be held Thursday through Sunday at the La Salle County Fairgrounds, 1578 4-H Road, Ottawa. The T&A Bucking Bulls Rodeo with Rugged Cross Cattle Co. is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m., and the Ramer Race Promotions Demolition Derby is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. Livestock shows will be held Friday and Saturday, along with numerous other family activities. 2nd Military Show in Ottawa: The show — admission is free, but donations are welcome — is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. The exhibit features historic military vehicles and weapons from throughout U.S. history, including reenactments of World War II battles and camps at the Krug Farm, 3277 E. 18th Road, near Ottawa. At 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, spectators with a properly signed waiver can participate in a World War II tactical battle by riding along in an attacked convoy. A church service will be held at 9 a.m. in the Krug Chapel, followed by another tactical convoy battle at 11 a.m.

3. MarshallPutnam Just: The fair, themed “Once Upon-A-Fair,” will feature many family-friendly events throughout the festival, Sunday, July 14 through Sunday, July 21 at the fairgrounds in Henry. Tracy Lawrence will provide a musical headliner on Thursday at 7 p.m. along with Confederate Railroad and Tyson Schulte. The fair begins on Sunday with a vendor show, the County Fair Stampede 5K, a food truck fest with 10 different vendors, harness racing and the Little Miss beauty pageant, followed by the Junior Miss and Miss beauty pageants. The vendor show will include 20 vendors under the grandstand and 14 tents across from the grandstand.

4th Wyanet Summer Festival: Wyanet will host its 69th annual Summerfest Thursday through Saturday. A parade is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by pedal pulling for kids. On Saturday, there will be a euchre and pocket tournament in the beer garden, as well as a Texas Hold 'Em and pocket tournament. The festival will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday with water fights for kids hosted by the Wyanet Fire Department, followed by a children's fair until 7 p.m. Each night, there will be a beer garden open until midnight featuring food provided by Wyanet Locker. Gary “Frog” Swanson & Company will entertain on Thursday; Patrick 'N' Swayze, a country rock band, will provide live music on Friday and 3 Day Rain, a country band, will perform on Saturday. There will also be food trucks each day of the festival.

5th Buda Fun Days: The Buda Community Club presents Buda Fun Days on Saturday, July 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Stewart Park. Activities include a parade at 11 a.m. down Main Street ending in the park and a bag tournament at noon (registration at 11:30 a.m.). There will be $10 pony rides, bumper cars, bounce houses, a Velcro wall, crazy tricycles, face painting and a petting zoo all day. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. There will be a foam party starting at 3 p.m. Tacos Guzman, Bradford Snack Shack, Ooh ra BBQ and Carnival Truck will provide food. DJ Brian Phillips will provide the music. All activities are free except for the pony rides and food from the booths.
