Texas will face Northwestern again in the 2024 NCAA Austin Softball Regional

After a 5-0 win over Siena on Friday behind a complete no-hitter from Mac Morgan and a 14-2 win over Northwestern on Saturday, the Texas softball team is one win away from clinching the Austin Regional of the NCAA Tournament win and advance to next weekend's Super Regional. The Longhorns must beat Northwestern Sunday again to secure a spot in the next round. If Texas loses to Northwestern, the teams immediately play the second game of a doubleheader, as the regional round of the NCAA Tournament follows a double-elimination format.

Teagan Kavan and Ashley Miller meet in the Battle of the Aces

Based on the announced starters, there could be a pitching duel between Texas and Northwestern. Northwestern relied on Ashley Miller for this game considering the Big 10 Pitcher of the Year only pitched one inning this weekend. She has a record of 17-5 and a 1.37 ERA with 169 strikeouts and 82 walks in 153.1 innings. Opponents are hitting just .162 against the graduate student. Texas will counter with freshman Teagan Kavan, who leads the Longhorns with a 17-2 record and a 2.00 ERA along with 101 strikeouts and 32 walks in 101.1 innings. Kavan, who has never pitched in the Austin Regionals, is allowing opponents to hit .179.
