Peppa Pig theme park in North Texas under fire from PETA – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

PETA has one request for the new Peppa Pig theme park being built in North Texas: Don't sell meat.

In a recent letter to Hasbro and Merlin Entertainments, PETA said animal-based foods would terrify Peppa Pig-loving children and run counter to the show's values.

The animal rights organization asked the park to honor Peppa's friends and family, as well as her young audience, by offering visitors healthy, humane vegan foods and removing animal meat, milk and eggs from the menu at Miss Rabbit's Diner.

“Peppa's young fans would be horrified to learn that Miss Rabbit serves meat and milk from animals that are loving, playful and affectionate – just like Mrs. Cow and the other residents of Peppatown,” said PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA is calling on the theme park to leave the animals alone and not tear them to pieces by offering a menu of delicious vegan food that everyone can enjoy.”

PETA also stated in the letter that removing animals from the menu would lead to a spike in visitors.

“Just as you decided to remove pork from your theme park menu in Florida, we expect you will do the same in Texas, as pigs are intelligent, playful and affectionate creatures – just like Peppa herself,” it reads Letter. “You clearly see the irony of selling pork, so why sell products made from other exploited animals like Carol Cow or Mrs Cow? Just like pigs, cows and other animals are friends, not food.”

NBC 5 reached out to the park for comment but we have not yet heard back.

The park is scheduled to open later this year in North Richland Hills and will be the second Peppa Pig theme park in the United States, joining the second in Central Florida. When it opens, the North Texas park will feature multiple rides, including kid-friendly roller coasters, and themed play areas with a wading pool, nature trail, treehouse and indoor cinema.
